3 Awesome Biking Trails Less Than a 30-Minute Drive From Medford, OR
Forest Park
Located about a 15-minute drive from Bedford, Forest Park offers over 30 miles of trails nestled amongst forested hills. Signage clearly designates each as biking-only, hiking-only, or multi-use, and users are asked to respect these designations. The distance and difficulty of each trail vary, so check the signage to find one suitable for your skill level.
The different trail options make Forest Park a good choice for a challenging solo adventure or a leisurely family outing. Benches are scattered throughout the trail system, giving you a spot to rest if you need it. If you’re lucky, you may spot some ducks or deer as they roam freely within the park.
Mountain of the Rogue
The Mountain of the Rogue is predominantly a trail system for mountain biking but be alert for hikers and trail runners. Tackle the trail in the spring to enjoy views of plentiful wildflowers, including irises and larkspurs. At any time of year, your trek up the mountain will reward you with stunning views of the Rogue River and the many surrounding vineyards.
With an elevation gain of 1,395 feet, the 7-mile trail has moderately difficult terrain. Mountain bikers new to the sport may want to gain experience elsewhere before attempting the Mountain of the Rogue. Parking is free, and public washrooms are available year-round before you reach the trailhead.
Prescott Park
Featuring both paved and unpaved trails for bikers, hikers, and horses, Prescott Park offers breathtaking views of the Rogue Valley and its surrounding mountains. Roxy Ann Peak, a 3,576-foot-tall mountain, is the park’s highlight. You’ll notice the vegetation changing as you ascend the trail: oak savanna and grassland on the lower slope and mixed coniferous forest on the upper slope and summit.
The park features a gated entrance. When it’s closed to vehicles, you can still enter the park by foot or by bike.
Every great adventure starts by getting to the trail. A sturdy, reliable truck such as the GMC Sierra 1500 can haul your bike while navigating the rough gravel roads that lead to some of Oregon’s trails. The trails are calling, so schedule a test drive at Airport Chevrolet GMC to find your next vehicle and begin your next adventure.
