Electrical problems are very rare in a well-serviced engine. In most cases, these are caused by old or worn components. Your Chevy dealer can detect and repair any of these problems for you. These are some of the issues we can fix.

3 Electrical Problems You Should Get Fixed

Failing Alternator

Your car’s systems require a constant and constant electrical supply. This electricity is supplied by a relatively simple generator called the alternator. The alternator is powered by the movement of the crankshaft. The alternator belt connects the crankshaft to several pulleys, one of which connects to the alternator. As the alternator belt moves, the alternator pulley spins, and the alternator generates electricity.

An alternator can fail for serial different reasons. It can fail due to age, as an older alternator slows down and produces less electricity than it once did. Loose electrical connections can reduce the power supplied by the alternator. Finally, a damaged battery can drain your alternator and even kill it. We’ll examine your alternator and either repair the cause of the problem or install a new alternator.

Failing Headlights

Good headlights are vital for driving at night or in other restricted vision circumstances. Headlights are particularly sensitive to interruptions in their power supply. If your headlights suddenly become dim, your headlight bulbs may be old and close to blowing. The lifespan of a headlight bulb varies from 500 hours to 30,000 hours, depending on the type of bulb installed.

If your bulbs are relatively new, there’s a problem with the electrical system. You might have a worn alternator, as we saw above, that can’t supply enough power. If this is the case, the bulbs may only be receiving enough power to switch on. Damaged wiring, rusted bulb sockets, and other problems can also produce dim lights. We’ll investigate and repair the cause of the problem.

Worn Spark Plugs

Spark plugs wear out like all other components. If a spark plug can’t supply enough power to ignite the fuel-air mixture in a cylinder, your engine will misfire. You’ll experience a jerking feeling and your engine performance will drop. If more than one spark plug fails, your engine could stall as the failing spark plugs prevent combustion from occurring.

Plugs can also fail if their connected ignition coil is malfunctioning. The ignition coil boosts the charge from a spark plug from 12 volts to 30,000 volts to ignite the fuel-air mixture in a cylinder. Spark plugs can become loose in the sockets over time, and this can prevent a spark plug from working correctly. We’ll check your plugs and replace any worn or damaged ones.
