EV Frequently Asked Questions
Considering an EV for your next vehicle?
You’re in good company. More southern Oregon drivers are switching to electric vehicles every year—for the instant torque, quiet ride, and lower cost of ownership. At Airport Chevrolet GMC Cadillac, we’re here to help you understand what life with an EV is really like. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions we hear from our customers in Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland who are considering going electric.
Is EV maintenance really that easy?
It is. Electric vehicles have fewer parts to service—no oil changes, no spark plugs, no exhaust system. You’ll still rotate tires, replace cabin filters, and check brake pads and battery health, but overall, maintenance takes less time and costs less over the life of the vehicle.
How do EVs hold their value?
EV resale values have grown stronger as more drivers make the switch and battery technology continues to improve. Brands like Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac have made long-term investments in EV quality and infrastructure, which helps boost confidence and resale potential.
What’s it like to drive an EV?
Smooth, quiet, and surprisingly powerful. Electric motors deliver instant acceleration with zero lag, and the low battery placement gives EVs excellent balance and cornering. You’ll feel the difference the first time you press the pedal.
How long do EV batteries last—and are they covered?
Most EV batteries are designed to last 8 to 15 years depending on use and climate. Every new GM EV battery comes with a warranty of at least 8 years or 100,000 miles, so you’re covered well into the future. Smart charging habits—avoiding frequent full drains or overcharging—can help extend life even more.
Are EVs safe?
Absolutely. GM’s EV lineup goes through the same rigorous crash testing as any gas-powered model. The low center of gravity actually improves rollover resistance, and built-in battery protection systems help manage impact and overheating. Advanced driver assistance features—like Super Cruise and Forward Collision Alert—add even more peace of mind.
Are EVs better for the environment?
Yes. Even when you factor in battery production, electric vehicles produce fewer emissions across their lifetime than traditional engines. And here in Southern Oregon, using Pacific Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy or home solar makes every mile even cleaner.
Can I trade in my current vehicle?
Definitely. Whether it’s gas, hybrid, or another EV, we’ll give you a fair appraisal toward your next all-electric Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac.
How far can I go on a full charge?
Range depends on the model. Many GM EVs—like the Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac LYRIQ—offer over 300 miles on a full charge. That’s more than enough for daily commuting or a trip from Medford to Portland with a quick recharge along the way.
How long does charging take?
A Level 1 household outlet adds a few miles of range per hour. A Level 2 charger (240V) can fully recharge most EVs overnight. For road trips, DC Fast Chargers at locations here at our store and at the Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites, Lithia Springs Resort, and Grants Pass Walmart can take your battery from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Can I install a home charger?
Yes. Most EV owners install a Level 2 home charger in their garage or carport. Installation is quick, and you may qualify for Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program savings or Pacific Power’s EV charger incentives. We can connect you with local certified electricians to handle setup safely and efficiently.
What happens if I run out of charge?
It’s rare, but if it happens, roadside assistance can tow your vehicle to the nearest charging station. Most GM EVs feature energy prediction systems that give plenty of notice and help plan charging stops using in-car navigation or your myChevrolet, myGMC, or myCadillac app.
