One of the greatest things about living in Medford, OR is that you are never far from amazing scenery. Within just a short drive, you can lose yourself in dense forests, towering mountain ranges, and rolling plains, making the area excellent for nature lovers. Whether you’re taking the family out for a walk or need some time to yourself in nature to clear your head, here are some of our favorite hiking trails not far from town.

Crater Lake National Park

For one of the most majestic views you can get, Crater Lake National Park is the place to go. The name of the park comes, unsurprisingly enough, from a huge lake in the center of the park that is nestled inside a dormant volcano crater. Fed by rain and snow over millennia, this lake is actually the deepest lake in the US and boasts some of the best hues of blue too.

This area is home to tons of hiking trails, ranging in difficulty from some short, easy trails to longer, more difficult ones, and you have options of trails with lake views, steep paths into the rugged mountains, or winding forest walks. When it comes to diverse scenery, Crater Lake National Park trumps all other parks in the area.

Bear Creek Park

On the banks of Bear Creek, a tributary of the Rogue River, you’ll find this little beauty known as Bear Creek Park. Featuring a beautiful 2.3-mile-long hiking trail along the side of the river known as the Panther Pride Trail, this is a great place to enjoy nature at its finest. Alongside the trail, Bear Creek Park also includes a skatepark, a BMX track, four tennis courts, little league fields, and an area where you can take your dog off its leash.

You can get to all of these amazing trails amenities and trails in just a short drive from town, but as you get close to the park itself, the road becomes a little worse for wear, so make sure you make the trip here in a sturdy, robust car such as the GMC Terrain SLE to avoid having any issues on the way to your destination.

Now you know the best spots around Medford for some great hikes through nature. Whether you want to see fascinating lakes inside inactive volcanoes or some serene, flowing rivers, these places are sure to satisfy your cravings for the great outdoors.
