As Southern Oregon’s biggest city, Medford, OR offers the best of everything. With its cool urban city vibe sitting right alongside breath-taking natural beauty, there are a thousand reasons to love living here. We’ve picked our own top four reasons as to why we feel grateful to call this city home.

1. Nature

Sandwiched in the natural beauty of the Rogue Valley, the city benefits from all-year-round outdoor fun. Just west of the town lies Applegate Lake where you can enjoy a host of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, boating, fishing, swimming…the list goes on. The area has been home to the famous Big Foot Trap since the 1970s after a worker spotted a huge footprint. Dillon Falls, just 22 minutes from town offers hikers the best views of the series of powerful rapids and waterfalls.

In the winter months grab your skis and head to Mount Ashland for some snow fun and warm hot chocolate. Or if sledding and snowshoeing are more your thing, Table Mountain in the Hyatt Lake Recreation Area is the place to go.

2. Arts and Culture

The town benefits from a wealth of arts and culture. Catch a play or performance at The Collier Center or one of the many theatres across town. If art is more your thing then check out the local talent at the Art du Jour Gallery or the Rogue Gallery and Art Center. For history buffs, the Southern Oregon Historical Society brings local history to life.

3. Food

The city’s artisan food scene showcases the best of the local’s talent. With a bunch of independently owned restaurants serving food made with locally grown produce, you really can taste the best the area has to offer. If you’re in the mood for Asian, try the award-winning Bambu. For pizza lovers, try the artsy Kaleidoscope Pizzeria, or The BricktownE Brewing Company serves up classic pub meals.

If you are finding it too difficult to choose a single restaurant, then The Hungry Hustle Walking Food Tour is for you. Tours run four days a week and participants can enjoy tastings from 6-7 different restaurants in the downtown area.

4. Wine

With Medford sitting right in the heart of Rogue Valley’s wine country, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to sampling local wines. With around 88 vineyards in the area, there’s a wealth of history and wine culture to explore. Visit one of the many vineyards or take a private guided tour. Alternatively, hop aboard the Allaboard Trolley Tours and explore the all different areas of Southern Oregon wine country.

Head to 2 Hawk Vinyard and Winery where there are always fun activities on offer such as vineyard and winery tours, tastings, wine pairing dinners, and cooking classes. Enjoy a glass in the mountain lodge-inspired tasting room or out on the patio whilst taking in the beauty of the Rogue Valley. Always remember to drink responsibly and do not drink and drive.
