Driving in the heat with your car AC not working is very unpleasant. It spoils your enjoyment of your Chevy, and that’s not something you want. If your AC isn’t working right, your Chevy dealer in Medford, OR, is here to help you. These are a few signs that you may need to bring your car in for an AC checkup.

Weak Airflow

When you turn on the AC, you expect to be greeted by gusts of cold air. If you have very weak airflow from the vents, you have an AC problem. Air is drawn into your car via the vent on the hood just below the windshield. This air then undergoes a cooling using gas and liquid R-13A refrigerant before the air is blown into your cabin.

Weak airflow through the vents could be due to a blockage in the ducts, a damaged fan, or a loose blower hose. A loose blower hose, for example, will severely reduce airflow into your cabin as the air leaks out. Our Chevy-trained technicians will examine your AC and repair the cause of the problem.

Your AC Is Getting Warmer

If you notice the air blowing from your AC is becoming warmer than it should, the AC needs inspection. A lack of cold air could be caused by several different issues, including a refrigerant leak, a worn condenser, a damaged blower motor, or a broken compressor. Any AC problem is detectable by sensors attached to its vital components. These sensors will relay the problem to your car’s computer.

Our technicians will connect your computer to our diagnostic system and reveal the cause of the issue. A refrigerant leak, for example, will gradually reduce the ability of the AC to chill the air. As refrigerant leaks out, the air will become warmer. Eventually, your AC will switch off due to the lack of refrigerant. We will find and fix the leak and then refill the refrigerant.

Jammed Compressor Clutch

The compressor is a vital part of your AC system. It triggers the AC system, and it keeps the whole system running. When you turn on your AC, you’ll hear a small click. This click is the sign that the compressor clutch has activated the compressor.

A worn compressor clutch can jam. If the clutch jams on, the compressor will continue to run and eventually burn itself out as it overworks. A clutch that jams off will prevent the AC system from working at all. Our certified technicians at our Medford, OR service center will test the clutch and replace it if it’s failed.
