Your Chevy is equipped with many safety features that will keep you and your passengers safe on the road for many years to come. However, it is important that you maintain your vehicle and keep an eye out for wear and tear and parts that need replacing. Headlights are an extremely important safety feature on your car, and we’re going to let you know five signs to watch for that tell you it’s time to head to your Chevy dealer for new headlights.
Signs Your Chevy Needs New Headlights
1. Your Headlights Are Burned Out
If both of your headlights are burned out, you need to replace them before you drive in dark conditions again. And even if only one headlight burned out, you should change both of them at the same time because they likely were installed at the same time. This will save you from replacing the second one in a few short months.
2. Your Headlights Are Five Years Old
Headlights are only manufactured to last about five years. So, if yours are older than that, or if you drive with your headlights on often, you should consider replacing them now as opposed to waiting until they burn out.
3. Your Headlights Are Flickering or Blinking
Although flickering or blinking headlights can indicate a wiring issue, it most often means your headlights are starting to wear out. Head to your mechanic to have them get to the source of the flickering issue and replace them if needed.
4. Your Headlights Are Dim
Newly installed headlights are bright and fresh, but they do noticeably dim over time due to general use, being exposed to UV light, and debris build-up. However, if you notice they are significantly less bright, and especially if you’re having difficulty seeing the road, it’s time to get them changed.
5. Your Headlights Are Foggy
Sometimes foggy headlights are created due to a haze that builds up on the headlight case. This can be easily fixed by using a special headlight cleaner. However, if this doesn’t help, chances are the fogginess is created by moisture getting into cracked or damaged headlight covers. Your headlights will wear out quicker due to this excess moisture, so it’s important to replace them when you notice fogginess due to cracks.
