The standard 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine mates with a six-speed automatic transmission and produces an output of 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. For an impressive output of 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, opt for the available Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 engine. It pairs with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. Both engines are available with either a rear- or four-wheel-drive system. A dual-rear-wheel axle, which boosts the truck's towing capacity, is also offered on certain bed and cab configurations.

Performance

When properly equipped, the Silverado 2500 HD can tow up to 18,510 pounds. In addition, the truck's Durabed offers more cargo volume than that of any competitor. Apart from 12 standard tie-downs, you can equip the bed with LED cargo area lighting and an available built-in 120-volt outlet.
