The Chevrolet Equinox is a popular compact crossover that offers athletic handling, a well-equipped and intuitive infotainment system, and spacious seating. For the 2022 model year, the Equinox receives a cosmetic makeover and also a new RS trim.

Trim Levels

The styling upgrade of the new Equinox includes newly styled headlights, a redesigned grille, and new front and rear bumpers. You can choose from a range of attractive exterior colors, such as Blue Glow Metallic, Iron Gray Metallic, Seaglass Blue Metallic, and Cherry Red Tintcoat. For the new model year, the available trims are the LS, LT, RS, and Premier. The base trim comes with plenty of convenient standard features, such as automatic on/off headlights, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, a manual liftgate, LED headlights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. With the LT trim, you receive added LED daytime running lights and deep-tinted rear glass. Besides a power-programmable liftgate and roof-mounted side rails, the new and sporty RS trim features LED taillights, 19-inch Dark Android-painted aluminum wheels, and blacked-out features. With the top-of-the-range Premier trim, you can expect luxury items such as fog lights, side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, and a hands-free gesture liftgate.

Engine

The Equinox is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that mates with a six-speed automatic transmission and produces 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.

Performance

You receive an overall comfortable ride with the Equinox. Apart from stable handling and accurate and direct steering, the SUV's suspension system provides a cushioned and smooth ride. The Equinox also offers respectable fuel economy. Front-wheel-drive Equinox models deliver an estimated rating of 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, the Equinox can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

Interior

The Equinox's cabin is well-appointed and also provides plenty of space for passengers. Both front and rear passengers receive comfortable and roomy seats. A decently sized rear cargo area offers 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space, and you can also fold the rear seats down to open up a maximum cargo area of 63.9 cubic feet. Depending on the trim you go for, the cabin may feature a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, memory settings, and heated front seats.

Safety Features

All Equinox trims feature the Chevy Safety Assist safety suite, which consists of advanced driver-assist features. These include forward-collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and automatic emergency braking. You also receive a following distance indicator, Intellibeam auto high beam assist, and lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning. Available systems include an HD surround-vision camera, adaptive cruise control, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert.
