Even if you've already decided on taking advantage of a pickup truck's impressive towing capacity and features, finding the right one for your needs can be tough given the sheer number of options available. Fortunately, the new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 stands out with a plethora of exciting features and plenty of capability to enjoy. Learn all about this stunning pickup, and discover whether it's right for you.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
With five total trim levels, it's easy to customize your Sierra 2500 to have the exterior features you care about most. The standard trim level is known as the Pro, and it comes equipped with 17-inch steel wheels and LED exterior lights. Upgrade to the SLE, and you get alloy wheels alongside a six-function tailgate with EZ Lift lock-and-release functionality.
If you're looking for a serious upgrade, the SLT trim has quite a few impressive standard features including LED fog lights and 18-inch alloy wheels. A rear window defogger is standard too. Meanwhile, the AT4 is more off-road oriented with skid plates and a power-sliding rear window. Finally, the Denali boasts 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome accents, and the option for a power sunroof.
Engine (Power)
Two engines are available for the Sierra 2500, and they're the only engines you'll ever need. The base engine is a 6.6-liter V-8 that offers 401 horsepower with 464 pound-feet of torque. If that's not quite what you're looking for, the diesel option may be more to your liking. It's a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 with an impressive 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Performance in any pickup is primarily defined by its capability, and there's plenty on display with the new Sierra 2500. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 20,000 pounds with the diesel engine. The gas engine's capability is still impressive, however, as it manages a maximum towing capacity of 18,500 pounds. The payload capacity is impressive too, reaching a maximum 3,979-pound capacity.
Interior
From the moment you first sit inside this truck, you'll notice that it tends to be a bit more upscale than your average pickup, though it doesn't ever compromise its practicality. The front seats have plenty of space, but if you opt for one of the double cab models, your rear passengers will be just as comfortable. The crew cab additionally offers under-seat storage as well as rear seatback storage. In terms of technology, you'll find several impressive features, like a standard 8-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also outfit it with a convenient 120-volt outlet.
Safety Features
Staying safe behind the wheel is absolutely essential, and the new Sierra 2500 makes this easy. Among its available driver assistance features, you'll find forward collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane-departure alert, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The camera system is also quite impressive with 15 different viewing modes, including the iconic transparent mode. With this mode active, you'll be able to see around your truck as if the trailer wasn't even there when you're towing.
